Description

The Green Magic broccoli is perfect for summer harvesting and is characterized by improved resistance to hybrid bolting. It is considered a medium/early variety and is also suitable for fall harvesting. The large plants are blue/green with uniform, densely packed heads, excellent flavor and strong resistance to powdery mildew. If seed saving is not the only goal of the growing plan, hybrid broccoli varieties often produce an earlier, more uniform harvest with better disease resistance than open-pollinated alternatives.

Growing tips

Start indoors just before the last frost or later in spring to be able to harvest in 2 to 3 months. For fall harvest, start indoors in late spring, transplant in July and harvest just before the first frost date. For overwintering sprouting broccoli in mild winter areas, you can start indoors in late March to mid-April and harvest the following February to May. The seeds germinate in 7-10 days. Optimum temperature for germination: 10-30°C. Broccoli is a moderate to strong nutrient consumer that thrives best in humus-rich soil enriched with composted manure. Mix ¼-½ cup of complete organic fertilizer into the soil under each transplant. The plants should be planted out when they have 6-8 true leaves. When the plants are 20-25cm tall, you can push the soil around the stems up to the first large leaf to encourage side shoots. Broccoli thrives best in cool weather.
