The herb of immortality has been used for centuries in China as a tea made from fresh leaves and has a healing effect similar to ginseng. The taste is also reminiscent of ginseng and comes from the active components of the plant, gypenosides and ginsenosides. The herb of immortality is perennial and is considered hardy down to around -15 °C, although the leaves freeze back above ground. In spring, the herb of immortality sprouts again from the root suckers deep in the soil. It can be used decoratively up a trellis or as a hanging plant.
