The 'Round, White, Redheaded', also known by its Dutch cultivar name 'Ronde Witte Roodkop', is a very versatile, pretty and robust turnip. It belongs to the autumn turnips, but is often cultivated as a maize turnip. It also makes a wonderful stalk mush. Turnip greens can be harvested from fall to spring and used as a salad or leafy vegetable. Autumn turnips are especially popular in the Alpine region and in France. There, they are used as a vegetable for stews or processed into turnip cabbage. This is produced similarly to sauerkraut by acid pickling. With the late sowing time in July / August, they are a good subsequent crop after beans, peas or early potatoes.
