The kiwi 'Atlas' (male) is a beautiful climber that transforms a section of the garden into a small, green oasis. This plant grows quickly and impressively up various climbing supports. The beautiful green leaves of (bot.) Actinidia chinensis 'Atlas' adorn a pergola, wire trellises and trellises. During the flowering period from May to June, the kiwi 'Atlas' / male exudes a pleasant, subtle and sweet fragrance. This variety is male and therefore the ideal pollinator for female kiwis. The climbing plant still has bristly stems when young, which later turn into smooth branches. It easily reaches a proud and imposing height of four meters and over time overgrows its location with its dark green leaves. The shape of the foliage is broad, oval and slightly heart-shaped.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Actinidia chinensis 'Atlas' produces small white flowers from May to June. These form individually or in inflorescences of several flowers. If the male kiwi has a suitable female partner, fertilization takes place by means of insects and the result is delicious fruit with lots of vitamins. These are harvested from October to November, but only on the female specimens. The kiwi 'Atlas' / male does not bear fruit itself, but provides plenty of pollen for the female varieties. One male kiwi can supply up to five female plants with pollen. Actinidia chinensis 'Atlas' originally comes from south-east China. The plant now also thrives in Europe. A suitable location should be chosen for optimal development. It needs moist but not too wet soil and plenty of sun. Soil with a low lime content is also beneficial for growth. The climbing support that the kiwi needs to twine upwards and spread over the surface or as a roof ultimately determines the growth character of the 'Altas' kiwi. This plant is a proud, beautiful climber that brings an exotic character to the home garden.
