Description

Old, historic tomato variety from the Sorrento Peninsula in Italy. The variety probably arrived in Italy from America at the beginning of the 20th century. Large, juicy, wine-pink, fleshy beefsteak fruits are aromatic, fruity, firm to cut but not hard, weigh approx. 150-450 g, irregular in shape, round to slightly heart-shaped. Approx. 7-12 cm/2.8-4.7 in in diameter. Plant grows to approx. 1.5 m/1.6 in high. Leave 1 to 2 stems. (Source: Irina's store).

Growing tips

For greenhouses and outdoors, also in containers, grow 2 shoots. Tomatoes need warm temperatures between 20-25°C/68-77°F for germination. After germination, place in a cooler place (max. 20°C). Sowing before March can lead to a lack of light and poorer plant growth. When pricking out, plant deeper down to the cotyledons so that the plants can develop new roots. Harden off before planting out. Fertilize regularly and water evenly. Should be thinned out. Tie or fix the main shoot in particular, as it could otherwise break off due to the heavy fruit. A location protected from rain is advantageous. Basil (against mildew and whitefly) and marigolds (against nematodes, viruses, whitefly) have proven to be good companion plants.
